My research focused on antimicrobial stewardship with an emphasis on dosing strategies to optimize the pharmacodynamics of these drugs.

Prior to joining Stony Brook, Dr. Sym, was as Associate Professor at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Medical Liaison, Infectious Diseases, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Senior Clinical Pharmacist, Stony Brook University Hospital. She is a member of the Long Island Society of Health-system Pharmacists and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Her prior teaching responsibilities included courses in infectious diseases, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiential and Pharmacy Practice Laboratory Simulation. Dr. Sym’s vast experiences in academia, hospital pharmacy practice and the pharmaceutical industry will be a comprehensive resource to the students.
